Abstract: In recent years, curcumin supplementation has begun to be used frequently in sports due to its anti-inflammatory and antioxidant benefits. It is being used as a method to help reduce delay-onset muscle soreness or DOMS, this being one of the main indicators of muscle damage when performing eccentric exercises. Objective. To determinate the effectiveness of curcumin supplementation in reducing delay-onset muscle soreness (DOMS). Method. A search was carried out in the Pubmed and UOC databases. The keywords used for the search were "curcumin", "turmeric", "delay onser muscle soreness" or "DOMS" and "Exercise-induced muscle damage" or "EIMD", a combination was made with these words. Results. A total of 74 articles were found, of which 13 met the criteria for use in the review. Of the 13 articles analyzed, 12 of them showed a decrease in DOMS with curcumin supplementation and 1 article showed no effect on DOMS. Conclusion. Curcumin supplementation manages to reduce delayed-onset muscle soreness (DOMS), as well as certain markers of muscle damage and markers of inflammation, however, however, still certain variables remain unresolved and should be focused for future studies.
