Title: Vivir en la sombra
Author: Ubeda Escarmena, David
Tutor: Ramos Mansino, Victoria
Abstract: This audiovisual project focuses on creating a documentary that serves as a social critique, aiming to depict the reality of the streets of Toronto, Canada. The documentary seeks to raise awareness about an existing issue that is burgeoning in many idealized countries, highlighting the stark contrasts between reality and social media portrayals. The documentary is titled "Vivir en la sombra" paying homage to its protagonists: individuals without homes or struggling with substance addiction, who are often overlooked by a significant portion of the citizenry. "Vivir en la sombra" is not intended to disparage the city of Toronto or its residents. In fact, the documentary features insights from an expert in social services to seek answers and understand how governmental bodies and volunteers from social organizations address these crises. This project transcends its role as an audiovisual endeavor. "Vivir en la sombra" serves as a response to a recurring societal question: "What can I do?" The documentary was produced in Toronto by the author of the project using only a mobile phone. Emphasizing this detail underscores the message that any citizen, with their own resources, can contribute to addressing this crisis.
