Author: Frank, Jasmin
Tutor: Tortadès, Àngel
Abstract: This paper analyses Richard Gross' translation of Charlotte Roche's novel Feuchtgebiete (Wetlands). More specifically, it focuses on the taboo and foul language in the work. The aim is to discover the most common techniques used by the translator when translating this type of vocabulary from German into Spanish. In addition, a review of literary translation and its characteristics will be carried out. Furthermore, taboo language will be described and classified, and finally, its role in the history of literature and its translation will be examined. To carry out the analysis, a corpus has been created containing the original taboo words of the novel together with their equivalents and the translating techniques used. Finally, the relevant conclusions are drawn and presented.
