Abstract: This article proposes to displace the traditional relationship of subalternity of Catalan Studies within its epistemological framework in the United States —the tradition of Hispanism in American academia— toward a new politics of intrusion. Based on the author’s experience, disidentification toward both Hispanism and catalanística is theorized as the ideal space for Catalan studies due to the impossibility of it differentiating itself and assimilating to Hispanism. In this way, the text claims to overcome the mediating role that Hispanism has historically played between the specific field of Catalan Studies and the generic field of the humanities and to activate new politics of intrusion in other disciplines in order to move from a survival space —under the suspicion of belonging to a Western oppressive epistemology— to a dynamic space of force.
