Abstract: This paper presents a comparative analysis of the factors that influence job satisfaction, motivation and engagement according to different generational groups, with an emphasis on millennials in the Community of Madrid. The growing generational diversity in the work environment and the future high turnover has increased the interest in investigating more about these factors and the possible implications for people management and organisational culture. To carry out this study, a comparative approach was used, collecting data from 49 employees from different generations, including generation X, generation Y or Millennials, and generation Z. The following instruments were used: Utrecht Work Engagement Scale (UWES) (Schaufeli et al., 2002) for the measurement of engagement, the Minnesota Satisfaction Questionnaire (MSQ) (Weiss et al., 1967) for the assessment of job satisfaction, and the Multidimensional Work Motivation Scale (MWMS) (Gagné et al., 2014) for the analysis of work motivation. Although the results revealed certain trends in millennials showing lower levels of satisfaction, motivation and engagement compared to the other generations, statistical analysis showed that such differences are not statistically significant. These results raise new questions regarding the relationship between generation and satisfaction, motivation and engagement, suggesting that these differences may be due to other factors. Furthermore, it highlights the need for more personalised approaches to managing people, with policies and practices that respond to their needs and expectations, beyond the generation to which they belong. This study therefore provides a valuable starting point for further research and management of generational diversity, highlighting the complexity of this phenomenon and the importance of studying other factors related to satisfaction, motivation and engagement.
