Abstract: The way younger people use information and communication technologies is different from the way adults do. Youth show more intensive and extensive practices, as shown by available statistics. This widely known result leads us to a question: what are the implications of the younger generations¿ communicative practices? Departing from some works that analyze the situation both in Spain and other countries, we will review the changes that are already taking place in different areas ranging from learning to socialization. We review as well proposals that try to give a global theoretical explanation of the communicative practices and attitudes of youth and adolescents. In the analysis we will consider the growing process of individualization of our societies and the widely extended presence of full-time connected communities of practice that characterize these generations.
