Abstract: In this paper, different techniques for fore casting model construction have been examined and their application to the Spanish electricity demand. Linear models, that allow the construction of the daily demand curve as a linear combination of values depending on the characteristics of the day; time series, that use the relationship between the demand signal with its past values to forecast the future ones and exponential smoothing models, that use the inherent inertia of the electricity demand and its seasonal characteristics.
