Abstract: The objective of this work is to establish an analysis of the content displayed and how it is transmitted and interpreted in photographs of scenes of Japanese women of the Meiji era in Japan. To do this it is necessary to review the historical background on gender roles, determine the context of the photographic market of the time and study the influence of artistic currents within the binomial West-East that determined the economic interests of cultural productions such as photography .
