Abstract: The inequality marks are reaching figures of record. Criminalizing the low classes makes it easier to justify this growth of the inequality levels. The role of the media is crucial to understand the way some prejudices and stigmas have fitted into the public opinion. From the established power is promoted the idea that inequality is something rational, since it would be just an expression of differences of talent and skills. The State symbol is rebuilt through a penal expansion with no precedents to sustain a political project: Neoliberalism. The penal severity is presented as a healthy requirement. It is a perverse process: the job insecurity that benefits big companies, and the decrease of social welfare cause a general impoverishment among the lowest classes, then the anxiety reaches the middle classes, and these demand to the State even more austerity and to be tougher on the poor and the minorities. The misfortune of the care plans and the splendor of the prisons are two sides of the same coin.
