Abstract: Many families experiment a strong sense of anxiety and stress when their child is diagnosed with ASD and when considering his/her upbringing. The family is a basic element in his/her evolution and well-being, as it is the family who offers support and opportunities. This revision study aims to identify the most important variables in parents¿ adaptation to the new situation that appear after the diagnosis. 12 articles published in Spanish in the last 5 years have been revised and classified into 5 categories depending on the frequency of their publications. The most influential factors in family adaptation seem to be social support (n=10), diagnosis communication and professionals¿ support (n=7). The least influential seem to be the facing strategies, emotional facilitators, symptoms seriousness and behavior, (n=3). The results show some practical implications which can be useful when planning interventions aimed to ASD diagnosed children, based on families and their needs. The interventions should give priority to the family as an essential element to improve the prognosis and the well-being of ASD diagnosed children. A good professionals¿ process of accompaniment is necessary. Any intervention should promote the family formation and empowerment, as an irreplaceable educational and therapeutic element.
