Abstract: If we had to choose a headline for 2017, in terms of technology, this would be artificial intelligence (AI). This theme was already among the most important in 2016 and appears in many areas of our daily life: from the recomanadors systems for marketing, which suggest products to buy, to vehicles, where the AI ¿¿is playing a key role in the car autonomous. But in 2017 we have also seen many experiences in higher education in which AI systems automatically attend students, giving an immediate and adequate response to students, while teachers can focus on tasks of added value for the student. The second trend that has been key is virtual reality (VR) and augmented (AR). Since 2016, VR and AR are emerging as key issues. 2017 has seen the appearance of more affordable dark circles that are bringing this technology to the general public. Even so, it is still an expensive technology, which needs to finish maturing and for which we still do not find the killer application. Another important point has been robotics, and the infinity of alarming news about how robots will take jobs to millions of workers. 2017 has been the year of the graphics with the risk professions. The summary of these graphs is that the more repetitive a job, the easier it will be for a robot to substitute it. Even so, there is hopeful news about the new professions of the table-robotics era. Also related to the social impact of technology, security problems have attracted the attention of the population regarding the security of their own data. It has also made relevance to the ethical aspects of technology, especially in terms of accessibility, privacy and security. In this context, a particularly important area has been the smart cities. Finally, in the field of education, technologies such as artificial intelligence or virtual reality are beginning to enter the classroom and we have seen some news that speak of revolution in education. Still, we can not talk about generalizable changes yet.
