Author: Bergé Via, Georgina
Tutor: Llobet Domènech, Jordi
Abstract: In recent years, a community of young people has emerged that recommends books, especially youth literature, through YouTube, the social network with which thousands of users share videos of various kinds. This community of young people, known by the name of booktubers, has managed to unite thousands of followers, with what has attracted the attention of professionals who are dedicated both to the publishing and educational sectors. The proximity that the booktubers show on the screens has been valued by the publishers, who take them into account at events, while they send them the latest edited news with the purpose of being recommended on their booktube channel. The audience that receives a booktuber with their videos has also caused admiration in the education sector, where teachers observe their influence as promoters of reading among adolescents; always complicated task in the classrooms. The figure of the booktuber stands, therefore, as the prescriber of juvenile literature. This research intends, on the one hand, to study the scope of the booktubers in the city of Igualada, a medium-sized district capital located in central Catalonia. On the other, we will investigate the relationship they have with the publishers and, finally, we will try to draw conclusions about the inclusion of this tool in the education sector.
