Abstract: The purpose of this study was to assess the habits related to mid-afternoon snacking in a sample of children between 6 and 12 years old. Results have corroborated what other very similar studies previously did, and that¿s the fact that although mid-afternoon snacking is a well stablished habit, the frequency and quality decreases as children get older. It is also remarkable that non healthy bakery is on the top of consumption whereas fruit is in the bottom. Water is the most consumed beverage although some other ones, not as healthy as water, are also consumed. One important point in this study is the fact that it has also been investigated which person is in care of the child and also to prepare the mid-afternoon snack. And results have shown that is the mother who assumes most of these responsibilities, but the father and also grandparents are the ones who prepare less quality meals. All these data has allowed to design an educational intervention program which is also included as part of this study.
