Author: Paredes González, Jenith Karem

Abstract: Early intervention of stuttering in preschool children can be done from different approaches, one of them and the one chosen for this study was the inclusion of musical tasks such as singing and rhythm exercises added to the early therapeutic intervention proposed by Fernández-Zúñiga and Gambra (2000), which is based on the strategies of: parent counseling, teacher counseling, and indirect intervention with the child (Starkweather and cols., 1990; Santacreu and Fernández-Zúñiga, 1991; Irwin, 1994; Fernández-Zúñiga, 1994; Bloodstein, 1995; Rustin and cols., 1996; Onslow and Packman, 2001; Rodríguez, 2003; Salgado, 2005; Fernández-Zúñiga, 2005; Jones, 2015). This case study was performed with a 4,6 year's old male, who after 7 weeks of early indirect intervention demonstrated a decrease in the percentage of fluidity errors, especially in the repetition of sounds of 57% to 0%, repetition of syllables from 13% to 0% in the context of retelling. It was concluded that the tasks of singing and rhythm collaborate as a therapeutic strategy by making the intervention more enjoyable, allow in a more easy and indirect way to apply speech molding techniques in a pleasant way for the child, and linked to reading activities contribute to linguistic development and the acquisition of metaphonological skills; However, it is essential for the parents to collaborate so that the changes obtained in the intervention can be generalized to the family context.
