Abstract: The new digital transformation paradigm promises to change how firms will work and will interact with customers in the future, bringing along several other benefits. The adoption of this model implies a deep transformation of the value chain and culture of the organizations, with the aim of increasing the socioeconomic profit. The transformation process has to be driven by the organizations leaders, assuring enough support and resources at all levels. The resistance to cultural change inside the organization itself is among the main risks to be managed. Moreover, leadership must always bear in mind that is the strategy, not technology, who must drive the digital transformation. The scope of this document covers the application of the digital transformation to the aerospace industry. This sector has been traditionally characterized by a high dependency on innovation and technology, in addition to a tight control of safety and airworthiness regulations. The aim of this document is to justify and propose strategies for success in applying the digital transformation to this sector, as a tool for leaders to achieve the goals of the industry in the next decades. The strategy proposed in this document empowers business strategy as driver for the transformation, instead of the technology itself. Finally, the real case of an aerospace firm (Airbus) involved today in a transformation process is presented and analyzed.
