Abstract: | This research analyzes film reviews in the Spanish mass media of two of the paradigmatic films of modern cinema in Spain: Rome Open City (Roma Città Aperta, 1945) and Journey to Italy (Viaggio in Italia, Rossellini, 1954). Both films by the same author allow us to evaluate the process of assimilation of Modernism in Franco's Spain and it relationship with censorship. Through reviews appeared in the press and in the journals we will discuss the relationship between the different political cultures of the regime, such as Falange and National-Catholicism, with modernism and Rossellini, their hegemonic periods and their links with certain aesthetic and cultural tastes. And thus we will analyze the relationship between modernism and fascism from cultural dissemination during the various phases of the Franco regime. |
