Abstract: Cognitive, motor and functional alterations cause great impact on quality of life (QoL) in Parkinson's disease (PD) patients. Although several studies show motor and functional benefits of Nordic Walking (NW) practice, less is studied about its cognitive impact in PD patients. The main purpose of this study will be to assess the effects of a NW program on motor and non-motor symptoms of PD. Method: 254 patients with mild-moderate PD will be randomly assigned to Control Group (CG, n=127) and Experimental Group (EG, n=127). The training will consist in 2 sessions per week for 3 months. Motor and cognitive functions, fatigue and QoL will be assessed, as well as controlling and recording blood pressure (BP). Results: We expect significant changes in executive functions, attention, memory, visuospatiality, fatigue, coordination, motor alternations, balance and QoL. Moreover, we expect the practice of exercise controls the BP of the participants. We don't expect the NW program to produce adverse effects. The NW program has cognitive, motor and functional benefits. Also it is associated with cardiovascular benefits. This results suggest that this practice should be included in treatment of PD.
