Abstract: Scientific documentaries have become very popular sources for the transmission of specialized knowledge to the general public. This knowledge that once belonged to experts, is now accessible to everyone. For this reason, this work analyzes the level of specialization of the linguistic content within one of the most popular documentaries on neuroscience on one of the most famous streaming platforms today. From this analysis, it will be possible to demonstrate the implications in the work of the translator and how the complexity in its terms can challenge the inherent competences of all professional translators. In this analysis, the level of specialization of each episode of the first season of the documentary series The Mind, Explained is diagnosed, terminological extractions are made and a sample of the subtitles of each episode is analyzed and examined as a basis to reflect the challenges presented to the translator and subtitler.
