Abstract: On 17 and 18 August 2017 a group of young boys from Ripoll, mainly former children from migrant background, committed the jihadist attacks of Barcelona and Cambrils. This event deeply shocked the entire society and resulted in a feeling of consternation and profound collective failure. By accepting the responsibility of Social Education to questioning oneself and the social environment, this essay begins by asking: ¿how these such 'full of life' young boys finally got themselves emptying their lives and those of other people? By focusing on the origin and the consequences of the attacks, the author investigates the young boys and their social discomforts, the jihadist-salafist promise and the institutional and civic responses to the attacks, which are critically analysed in search of an ethical positioning. This essay aims to override both the criminal profile of radicalised youth and the security approach based on 'risk factors' and 'radicalisation signs' as shown in the PRODERAI protocol used in Catalonia's education system. The author states that the idea of prevention relying on propensity score matching encourages control and punishment dynamics on teenage population, a feature that is not compatible with the educative project. On this essay, the process of radicalization is understood as a process of socialisation that requires a bond of friendship and, consequently, is more than just a crisis of identity. Subsequently, a series of social-educative actions capable of building meeting scenarios (co-exposure) are suggested on this essay with the aim to learn and to create a new common experience.
