Title: Apoyos que favorecen la comprensión del lenguaje en niños con Trastorno del Desarrollo del Lenguaje. Más allá de la literalidad de las palabras

Abstract: A large number of children with Developmental Language Disorder (DDL) have difficultyunderstanding language, especially when there is an emotional value involved. Because humans express emotions not only through lexical and morphosyntactic elements, but also through gestures and prosodic elements, the aim of this research is to compare the linguistic-emotional skills of children with DLD in relation to children with Typical Development, and to study the possible facilitating role of visual and prosodic supports. For this purpose, 8 Spanish-speaking children (4 with DLD) from 5 to 12 years old participated in two experiments. In Experiment 1, 48 phrases of the type "All the food in the fridge is spoiled" were presented in 4 different conditions (12 phrases per condition): neutral condition (without visual or prosodic supports), condition with pictograms, condition with facial expressions, and prosodic condition. In Experiment 2, phrases of the same type were presented, but in an incongruous condition, (visual and prosodic cues were contradictory). The participants had to identify in a behavioural way if the expressed emotion was positive or negative, and the reaction times were collected by means of the OpenSesame software. After the analysis of the results obtained, a clear ease of response can be seen when the supports are presented, and a greater number of errors and higher response times, when such inconsistency occurs. The need to expand the sample to obtain more statistically significant results in future studies is noted.
