Abstract: | Several authors stress the need for formal guidance in the learning of a subject, at least in the early stages of it. But with the emergence of quality educational resources on the Internet, is it possible for students to acquire the background needed to learn autonomously through the network without going to the classrooms? From the analysis of data obtained from a questionnaire that was administered to 14,936 students from the Catalan universities, this paper shows how in university courses, autonomous consultation of Internet resources does not replace the initial guidance of the educational institution. However, the data show that in the later stages these resources can be beneficial in acquiring expert knowledge, assuming the process of autonomous and networked learning throughout the life. |
