Title: La imagen de la protesta: Instagram y la construcción del espacio digital de protesta tras la sentencia del Procés
Author: Acevedo Nieto, Javier
Tutor: San Cornelio, Gemma
Abstract: In recent years, social networks such as Instagram have emerged as spaces that prolong the action of protests and demonstrations and transfer it to the social network interface. Protest has moved from real, concrete spaces to what authors such as Zappavigna have called digital spaces of protest. Studying how these digital spaces of protest are constructed on the basis of a qualitative analysis of the images posted by social network users reveals the relationships that are established between individuals and between the individual and the collective. This work starts from the analysis of the framing adopted by users at the moment of taking and uploading the image to Instagram and the analysis of the intersubjectivity inserted in the composition of these images in order to propose a series of conclusions that define how users relate to and interact with the protest through forms of audiovisual activism. In this sense, the collective imaginary is cemented in a series of symbolic icons that will be defined in order to finally unveil the web of visual resources that help to understand the way of relating to and constructing a digital memory of the protest. The final objective is to provide a basic method of analysis and to reflect on the integration of these individual narratives in a possible journalistic coverage.
