Abstract: Cases of domestic violence against children have increased since the beginning of the Covid-19 pandemic in Catalonia and there is a need to understand the causes and consequences of the phenomenon in order to make proposals for improvement. The empirical study uses a quantitative methodology: based on a questionnaire administered to professionals in the socio-educational sector of different services in Catalonia (professionals working in Counseling and Psychopedagogical Guidance Teams (EAP) and Social Services), the causes and consequences of the problem are analyzed from their point of view. With a total of 156 professionals surveyed, the results of the study show that the main causes of domestic violence towards children are the precarious socioeconomic situation of the parents or legal guardians of the child and the pre-existing violence in the family nucleus towards the child. As for the consequences of intrafamily violence, two stand out: the worsening of the child's mental health and the accumulation of cases that cannot be attended as well by socio-educational services as before the pandemic. Among the proposals to reduce intrafamily violence are the need to increase the number of mental health professionals and the need to accompany parents or legal guardians in order to reduce parental stress and promote parenting skills. The discussion and conclusions of the research point to the importance of working with families and the need to increase human resources to address children's mental health.
