Abstract: | The questioning of the hours of the working week has given rise to extensive debate. The historic milestone of the workers' movement to achieve a 40-hour working week is now showing signs of expiry, given the difficulty of combining work and social life. The root of this question is deeper and revolves around our society's conception of work and social time as a political and not a natural question. By placing it at the centre of our lives, we need to move towards a paradigm shift that focuses on personal rather than working life. This paper aims to address the role of the Public Administration, as the ruler of social life and responsible for guaranteeing the proper functioning of society and providing the resources and instruments necessary for the fair and safe coexistence of individuals, in moving in this direction. Specifically, it focuses on the design of a public policy on the reduction of the working week to 32 hours and 4 days, making a comparative analysis of the actions carried out in other countries and the opinion of experts in the field. |
