Abstract: In recent years, an increase in mood disorders in adolescence has been detected and Spain is among the first European countries with the highest incidence. Emotional education is an intervention and prevention strategy that has proven to be able to optimize multiple individual and interpersonal competences, and to improve the general well-being of adolescents. This paper proposes to review the scientific literature of the last five years referred to serious games or therapeutic video games specifically developed to promote emotional intelligence. A systematic review was carried out according to the indications of the PRISMA declaration, where only eleven studies from different European countries met the inclusion and exclusion criteria. The results showed a general increase in the experimental conditions: improvement in prosocial skills, control of impulsivity, learning of conflict resolution strategies.... However, the effect size was not statistically significant enough to demonstrate empirically that this benefit is exclusively due to the use of the serious game. Despite the limitations in the design of the reviewed publications, serious games can be an innovative and useful tool in the field of preventive and therapeutic psychology for young people. It is concluded that this research is currently in its early stages and more research is needed to decide the future of serious games as a potential tool in therapies with adolescents.
