Author: Hamed Mohamed, Said
Tutor: Calderero Patino, Marta
Abstract: This systematic review study aims to evaluate the relationship between music and its capacity to develop emotional intelligence in children and adolescents. To this end, a literature search was conducted in the Psychology Data Base, UOC Library, Google Scholar and Researchgate databases, prioritizing studies published in the last 5 years, but extending the range of years of the search to those studies published from 2012 to 2022, due to the scarcity of literature on this topic. Eleven studies that investigate the relationship between music and the development of different skills that are part of emotional intelligence from different perspectives are analyzed. The results of all of them link music as a valuable tool to favor the development of skills typical of this type of intelligence such as emotional expressiveness, self-esteem, social skills, emotional clarity, empathy, recognition of emotions, self-concept, conflict reduction, self-confidence, as well as the ability to favor the integral development of infants and adolescents.
