Abstract: Introduction, the increase in intensity and speed seen in football over the last few decades has also brought with it a significant increase in the number of injuries sustained by professional footballers, with thigh muscle strain being the most common injury. When supported by a sound nutritional plan, the rehabilitation process can be improved and potentially accelerated. Objective, to identify the most effective nutritional strategies to support the recovery process following the onset of thigh muscle strains in professional footballers. Methodology, a literature search was conducted in two databases: PubMed and Web of Science. Randomised clinical trials, prospective cohorts and cross-sectional studies from the last 10 years dealing with nutrition and supplementation in the recovery and prevention of muscle injuries in athletes were included. Of the 254 articles found, 37 were finally included in the review. Results, a high protein intake provides beneficial effects on recovery from exerciseinduced muscle damage. Vitamins C and E, omega-3 fatty acids, curcumin, tart cherry concentrate or beetroot juice produce significant improvements against exercise-induced muscle damage. Conclusions, there is no evidence of an optimal nutritional strategy for the prevention and/or recovery of thigh muscle strains in professional football players. Therefore, it is necessary to carry out studies that focus on this specific context.
