Abstract: Although there is a dystopian conception of artificial intelligence and new technologies, thjey have a lot of potential and a wide range of applications. Artificial intelligence allows analyzing the data collected to optimize the understanding of phenomena or make very accurate predictions for the prevention of these (Martinez, 2019). It can be applied for benevolent purposes and process improvement in different sectors: urban control and logistics, health sector, marketing, finance, agriculture, social networks, home, security, crime control, etc. On this occasion, we will study how this technology can be used to curb the environmental impact through the creation of smart cities that allow the control and optimization of traffic, the study of waste and the monitoring of the exploitation of the territory. Planet Earth and the communitiesare increasingly affected by phenomena caused and accentuated by human action and the incoming climate change. Human activities are the main cause of global warming and the worsening of some natural phenomena. Overpopulation, pollution and the accumulation of waste can harm their existence on the planet and, consequently, life on it. This technology can be used to solve problems of environmental impact, prevention and studies of atmospheric, geological, hydrological phenomena natural or caused by human action. This tool can also be used as a means to accelerate the resolution of the sustainable development goals. The enviromental problems identified in the Canary Island region will be analized throght this investigation and the artificial intelligence adoption to reduce environmental impact, as well as prevent natural disasters. All these aspects can be considered a future problem by society and, therefore, immediate measures are not usually taken but interventions are postponed. For this reason, the author wanted to approach the issue from an objective point of view, starting from a general perspective to a more specific and close one at the community level, taking the study to the canarian community.
