La traducció anglès-català de documents jurídics del comerç internacional: reptes, proposta de traducció i anàlisi

Abstract

Aquest treball final se centra en la traducció de textos jurídics que es generen en el comerç internacional. En concret, s’hi tradueixen tres documents fonamentals d’aquest àmbit: dos contractes de compravenda internacional i un coneixement d’embarcament. El treball es divideix en dos blocs. Primer, s’analitzen els textos des d’un punt de vista teòric. Examinarem les característiques lingüístiques dels textos jurídics en general, els reptes traductològics que suposa traduir contractes de compravenda internacional i coneixements d’embarcament i el marc legal que regula aquests instruments. El segon apartat constitueix la part pràctica del treball. S’hi fa un buidatge terminològic dels textos originals a partir del qual s’elabora un glossari bilingüe anglès-català. També s’hi inclouen els textos traduïts i l’anàlisi traductològica. L’anàlisi es porta a terme des de dos vessants: d’una banda, reflexionem sobre els procediments de traducció emprats amb l’ajuda d’exemples extrets dels textos meta; de l’altra, expliquem els criteris que s’han seguit a l’hora de traduir els textos de partida.

This final paper focuses on the translation of legal texts arising from international trade. More specifically, three documents from this field are translated: two international sales contracts and one bill of lading. This paper is divided into two main sections. First, the texts are analyzed from a theoretical point of view. We will examine the general linguistic traits of legal texts, translation challenges involved in the translation of international sales contracts and bills of lading, and the legal framework that regulates these instruments. The second section constitutes the practical part of this paper. Terminology is identified in the original texts, and a bilingual glossary from English to Catalan is prepared. This section also includes the translated texts and a translation analysis. The analysis is performed from two angles: on the one hand, translation techniques are reviewed using examples from the target texts; on the other hand, we offer a description of criteria applied in the translation of the source texts.
