Title: | La traducción de la literatura beur femenina: análisis de los elementos culturales de la discrétion de Faïza Guène |
Author: | Riñé Prados, Desirée |

Abstract: | The term "Beur literature" refers to all literature produced by young French authors of the second generation, i.e. whose parents immigrated to France from Maghreb. Several studies have analysed its main characteristic: cultural hybridity. In this work, I describe the different characteristics of this literature and its origin, as well as I analyse the characteristics of the works produced by women. Then, I analyse how to approach the translation, considering the main cultural differences between Spain and France and the principal peculiarities of the language used by the characters in the novels. For this purpose, I propose the translation of different extracts from the latest novel by the acclaimed Faïza Guène, La Discrétion, which has not yet been translated into Spanish. In order to be able to specify what my strategies will be, I decide to establish a methodology based on Hervey y Higgins’ (1992) classification, thus, I focus my analysis on categorizing the translation of all the cultural elements that appear. Through this analysis, I pretend to demonstrate the influence of the cultural diversity in France on the language of young people's neighbourhoods, the so-called banlieues, and to what extent it can be a translation challenge. |
