Author: Calvo Lillo, Marta
Tutor: Torres-Purroy, Helena
Abstract: Spanish is the second most spoken language in the United States, and this phenomenon not only reflects the cultural and linguistic richness of the country but also underscores the growing importance of enhancing the teaching and learning of this language. Thus, this document aims to address the specific challenge of improving motivation to develop the skill of written production in Spanish as a Foreign Language (SFL) in a first-grade classroom. Writing is identified as a particularly complex skill at this level, requiring high intrinsic motivation. For this reason, the methodology proposed in this work focuses on gamification, drawing inspiration from the video game “Super Mario World” and utilizing the technological tool Pear Deck. The employed methodology includes the implementation of a series of interactive and motivating activities, the use of various technological tools such as Pear Deck, Nearpod, and Kahoot!. The expected results of the intervention aim to demonstrate significant progress in motivation, active participation, and the improvement of written production skills in Spanish. The main conclusions seek to highlight the effectiveness of gamification in enhancing motivation in the context of teaching Spanish as a foreign language, specifically in the development of writing skills.
