Abstract: The paper analyzes the impact of the surrounding sea control of a nation for the future of the latter. In this sense, at first the historical process of Japanese imperialism in order to dominate the South China Sea as well as the intentions of the current China relative to said sea will be described. Then, on this basis, assess whether China is conducting a development of its maritime power in the South China Sea as in his day did Japan.
