Abstract: MOOC (Massive Open Online Courses) have sparked a global debate regarding to what extent they constitute quality teaching material. The aim of this research is to describe a set of indicators which can be used to assess the quality of MOOC being offered as a teacher training strengthening strategy. The main motivation resides in the management and leadership structural changes being implemented in Mexican elementary schools in order to improve educational quality. A quantitative approach was applied in a case study, and the main instruments for data collection included an inventory of quality indicators used in previous research, a questionnaire administered to participants in the course and examinations pre- and post-diagnosis. A set of quality and appropriateness indicators for MOOC is proposed and validated and the use of MOOC as a training strategy for professional teacher development is analyzed.
