Abstract: This paper aims to study the relationship between the centralization of decisions in three of the leading parties on today's Catalan political scene (CIU, ERC and PSC) and the interaction that they offer both on their websites and on Facebook. We have two working hypotheses. The first refers to the parties with greater centralization of decisions offering fewer opportunities for interaction on their website than the ones that have a lesser degree of centralization. The second hypothesis notes that the involvement of the public on the parties' social networks, in this case Facebook, does not necessarily have to match the party's degree of centralization. The reason for this lies in the channels of interaction of the websites being designed by the parties themselves whereas the structure of Facebook is pre-set and its use depends to a much greater extent on the web users who want to get involved and the issues that arise in the political sphere. The results show that the centralization of all of the parties is high, even though there is some variation, and that, in addition, there are few differences with regard to the channels of interaction offered by the parties on their websites. By contrast, there are significant differences between the parties in terms of the interaction found on the Facebook pages. This interaction appears to depend more on the predominant issues on the political scene than on the level of centralization of the decisions that may set the parties apart. This is an initial preliminary work that will subsequently be completed with the inclusion of the other parties in the Catalan political arena.
