Abstract: The origin of this thesis is found in the difficulties and deficiencies that I detected in the development of mathematical competence from my work as a teacher for more than a decade. In addition, the disaffection of mathematics among the students is evident. The two questions that the research is based on are: 1) To what extent is peer assessment an adequate didactic strategy for the development of mathematical competence in 11th-grade students? 2) How does peer assessment contribute to the improvement of students' affective domain regarding Mathematics? The methodological paradigm is design-based research (DBR) that explores and designs innovations in authentic educational contexts through an iterative process. The research context has been La Marisma High School, Huelva, Spain. The research allows me to affirm that peer assessment is viable and adequate for the development of mathematical competence. In addition, it contributes to a significant improvement in the affective domain of the participating students.
