Title: Una necesaria descolonización de las personas sordas. Retos para la Educación Social

Abstract: The colonization of deaf people has divided the community into two groups, the signers, who value sign language and deafness as a cultural identity, and the oralists, who prefer auditory rehabilitation with oral language. This division weakens their participation in the hearing community. Not forgetting that the female gender suffers greater discrimination. Through a qualitative method, and using semi-structured, individual, and in-depth interviews with a sample of sixteen people, twelve of whom are deaf individuals and four listeners, with gender equity between males and females, an attempt is made to detect the level of conflict to calibrate a possible socio-educational mediation. The results indicate that signing deaf individuals are more open to dialogue than oralists, and that bilingual deaf individuals are in an intermediate position, facilitating understanding and integration between both groups. There is a great lack of knowledge about concepts of oppression on both sides, as well as a significant lack of historical memory. It is also perceived in both groups the recognition of the importance of reaching a participatory mediation. Educational measures would be necessary to train deaf individuals and expand the study to deepen the differences, and to develop socio-educational mediation proposals tailored to.
