Title: TRADUCCIÓN PARA DOBLAJE: LA ADAPTACIÓN CULTURAL
Author: Bonilla Hinojosa, Laura
Director: Cánovas Méndez, Marcos
Abstract: With the purpose of addressing some aspects of the original culture reflected both in the text and in the image of a film, translator has to choose between foreignizing the text (using a translation strategy that preserves the cultural elements of the original culture) or naturalize it (using a translation strategy in which those elements are adapted to the target culture). These aspects that can force the translator to choose a translation strategy are cultural references, humor, or puns, since it can be very difficult to translate them and that they cause the same effect that was intended with the original text when the target culture does not know or understand them. In this article, the translation of two practical cases is analyzed in to define the features of each translation strategy and check the resulting product when the translator chooses between one strategy or another: Austin Powers: Misterioso agente internacional (Austin Powers: International Man of Mistery), 1997, and the second movie, named Austin Powers: La espía que me achuchó (Austin Powers: The Spy that Shagged me), 1999.
